Hot Spot Highlight: SUR

If you are a fan of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills or the spin-off show, Vanderpump Rules, then you are probably familiar with the popular restaurant, Sur. Nestled in the heart of West Hollywood, this ultra chic place is sure to provide you with plenty of entertainment.

IMG_1244 IMG_1275

I was lucky enough to be able to dine at Sur last Friday night for my friends’ birthdays, and as a huge fan of Vanderpump Rules, I was not disappointed. Shades of purple and pink light lit up the entire restaurant, creating an ambiance that could only be designed by Lisa Vanderpump herself. If you find yourself dining at Sur, I highly suggest sitting on the back patio. It was nice to have fresh air, but the tree cover made the patio so comfortable, especially with all of the twinkling lights woven through the branches.

Flowers were all over the bars and tables, which made the entire restaurant smell so heavenly!

IMG_1250When one is dining at Sur, it is only necessary to order a bottle of Lisa Vanderpump’s LVP Pink Sangria. Served over ice with fresh raspberries, LVP sangria was absolute perfection.

For dinner, I chose a chopped arugula salad topped with tomatoes, olives, mozzarella cheese and a balsamic vinaigrette. This was the perfect choice to accompany my sangria and dessert. As if the sangria wasn’t sweet enough, we just had to order dessert! Because we were celebrating two birthdays for the twins Mimi and Laura, they got a very special chocolate cake. I also highly recommend the “Lemonchamp,” a tasty scoop of lemon sorbet ice cream floating in some bubbly. What could be better!

After dinner, we took a little stroll around the lively West Hollywood, and we ran into Pump! The other restaurant, also designed by Lisa, was just around the corner from Sur. Although we were not able to dine there, Pump also looked like the perfect place to relax and enjoy the evening.

The overall experience at Sur was amazing, but one of the most difficult things about that night was trying to figure out what to wear. If you’re looking for that perfect going out outfit, here are some of my favorites from PB&J Boutique:

The Perfect Beach Pants

I seem to find any excuse to make a trip to the ocean waves and salty air. I recently accepted an opportunity that allowed me to move to Huntington Beach in Orange County and I could not be more excited to be so close to the ocean!

I took a little trip to the coast before I made the big move and I had the best time exploring my new hometown. The beachy air can become a little crisp, especially when the sun starts to go down, but I was thrilled with the outfit I chose for the day. The Pistachio Paisley Pants by Hazel were light and comfortable, but kept me warm when it got chilly. Plus, it was super windy on the pier, so these pants were a much better choice than a dress!

PB&J Boutique has a bunch of vibrant, patterned pants that would be perfect for a day at the beach. I chose to pair my pants with a simple crop top and a dainty necklace. Check out these little necklaces by London Manori!

My Quay Sunnies are my favorite accessory at the beach! Be sure to check out PB&J’s awesome  variety of sunnies so that you can find your perfect pair!

If you ever visit Orange County, I highly suggest taking a stroll on Main Street in Huntington Beach for some amazing shopping, views and restaurants!

Air Travel Tips!

My family is spread out all over the country, so I travel quite a few times during the year to visit them. Some are a quick 1 1/2 hour flight away,  while others are a whole 10 hour day of driving, layovers, and plane changes! From carry-on bags to packing, here a few tips to make your next trip more enjoyable 🙂

airplanePhoto of the Turks and Caicos Islands

First, I like to take a big purse as my personal item so that I can stuff all that I need in it. I get super dehydrated on flights so I always pack my empty 32oz water bottle and then fill it at the airport after I get through security. And, try to avoid buying any drinks until you get through security 🙂

This is my must have packing list for flights:

  • snacks (nuts, dried fruit, Kind bars)
  • water bottle
  • ipad loaded with digital books and magazines (get them free from your local library)
  • headphones
  • charging cell for ipad & phone
  • light sweater
  • large scarf (doubles as a blanket on chilly flights)
  • hand cream
  • antibacterial hand wipes (because sometimes that tray table has someone’s snack still on it)
  • notebook/pen
  • lip balm
  • gum/mints

I’m sure you can come up with your essentials, and it’s helpful to make a list when packing. We have some great things here at PB&J Boutique to make your traveling more comfortable! Our Library of Flowers hand lotions smell delicious and are great to travel with. Bonus they are under the 3.4oz limit so you can put them in your carry-on.

Depending on the length of stay, I usually try to pack a carry-on. This saves time on waiting at baggage claim and you know you will always get your luggage. A carry-on plus rolling your clothes can last quite a few days. Which brings me to another tip – try to roll your clothing! Not only does it help with wrinkles but it saves space too! Room for one more pair of shoes! ; ) I always try to plan out my outfits so I am not over packing.

When packing a carry on, you need to be mindful of your liquids. This is a problem for a product junkie like me. Here is where that subscription to Birchbox comes in handy. I have a ton of sample size shampoos, conditioners, bb creams, lotions and perfumes. I like to save up my sample size products for trips and then throw them in that quart sized zip lock baggie. It’s a fun way to discover new products. Stores like Sephora will give you a sample size of anything you might want to try in store. I like to reuse those little cups they use to fill with my eye cream, serum, or foundation. For a 4 day trip, you only need a little bit of product so don’t waste precious space with full size bottles. Remember 3.4oz or less, and 1 quart sized clear bag per person! Sometimes I just can’t fit it all in one so I put the extras in my husband’s quart sized bag. : )

I hope these tips help you on your next trip!

Bon voyage!

A Walk In The Park

The weather here in Chico has been getting so much warmer lately! The summer heat occasionally becomes a little unbearable, but for right now the temperature is just perfect. We thought we would take a little break to go enjoy the beautiful weather by strolling through our local park.

For those of you who don’t know, Bidwell Park is a popular attraction in Chico. As the third largest municipal park in California, Bidwell features many different areas for hiking, swimming and overall recreation.

One of our favorite locations is called One Mile Recreation Area. One Mile has so many activities to make for a great day at the park. Sycamore Pool is a spot in One Mile that has a part of Big Chico Creek contained in with concrete decks, walls and bottom to allow for a unique swimming experience.

brunch… because mimosas

I love to go to brunch on the weekends. I think my favorite part is that I can basically have desert for breakfast! I usually try to start my day very healthy: I’m an egg white scramble and fresh fruit kind of girl but when it comes to brunch… I like to order something sweet and sugary.

Perfect brunch tee shirt!

Here in Chico, CA we have a ton of breakfast/brunch options. If you don’t get up early you will most likely have a long wait. Some of our favorite brunch spots in Chico are Sin of Cortez, Cafe Coda, Nash’s and Morning Thunder. A few of these places have unlimited mimosa bars, which sounds delicious. I think Brunch attire is best casual. I have picked out a few of my favorite tee shirts and sweater/jackets to keep  you looking effortlessly cool at brunch. After all brunch is usually a time when you don’t want to spend a ton of time to get ready.

You can of course avoid the long wait for brunch and make your own. Pancakes are pretty quick and easy to make. Today I’m sharing  my fluffy pancake recipe! Slightly sweet so you can enjoy them with or without maple syrup. I love to add fresh fruit on top when serving.  Enjoy!

Happy Brunching!

Who Loves Cookies???

I love cookies. Like, LOVE! Who doesn’t? Every December, I bake cookies for my family and friends. I always make my famous “heaven cookies,” Lemon Gems, and Sugar Cookies. For fun, I’ll usually add in a few unique cookie recipes like Salted Caramel Dark Chocolate and Red Velvet Cake Balls. Last year, I had to travel by plane to see my family during the holidays. On the way to the airport, I realized I forgot all 100+ cookies in my refrigerator! My friend and her family enjoyed them and now I’m sure they expect a special cookie package.  😉 Don’t worry Darlene I won’t forget about you this year!

It usually takes all day to bake my cookies! Last year, I got a beautiful Kitchen Aid stand mixer for a gift (thanks hubby) and that’s one great cookie mixer. My heaven cookies are my most requested cookie recipe; named as such because my sister-in-law says they taste like heaven 🙂

Heaven Cookies

4 1/2 cups flour                                                     2 packages (3.4oz) vanilla pudding

2 teaspoons baking soda                                    4 eggs

2 cups butter, softened                                       2 teaspoons vanilla extract

1 1/2 cups packed brown sugar                         2 cups semisweet chocolate chips

1/2 cups white sugar                                            2 cups dark chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 350. Sift flower and baking soda together. In a large bowl, cream together butter, brown sugar, and white sugar. Beat in pudding mix. Stir in eggs and vanilla. Blend in the flour mixture. Stir in chocolate chips. Drop cookies by rounded spoonfuls or cookie scoop onto un-greased cookie sheets. Bake for 10-12 minutes. Edges should be lightly golden brown.

You can play with the bake time a little…I like the cookies to be a bit soft in the middle. They taste like delicious cookie dough! It makes approximately 4 dozen depending on the size of cookies you make. I have a dairy allergy so I usually use I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter instead of real butter. It doesn’t have much dairy in the ingredients and I think it makes my heaven cookies extra fluffy. Just a little tip 🙂

Holiday Travel Plans…

I can’t believe it’s almost Thanksgiving! (Next week!) If you’re traveling and looking for the perfect bag, these Atenti bags are perfect for a long weekend getaway.

photo 2Overnight Cafe

Thanksgiving trips always seem to be a quick getaway with the holiday falling on a Thursday.  Wherever your holiday travels take you: the beach, the snow, the desert, or the city, this bag will serve you well as a carry on or as your pack all. My personal favorites are the faux fur bags; very soft and very lux looking. Why should you have a boring black suitcase like everyone else? 🙂 When not traveling, it would be the perfect bag to take to the gym.

These bags would also be a great holiday gift idea. Only about 5 more weeks until Christmas. It’s crazy how quick the holiday season came upon us!
