The Perfect Beach Pants

I seem to find any excuse to make a trip to the ocean waves and salty air. I recently accepted an opportunity that allowed me to move to Huntington Beach in Orange County and I could not be more excited to be so close to the ocean!

I took a little trip to the coast before I made the big move and I had the best time exploring my new hometown. The beachy air can become a little crisp, especially when the sun starts to go down, but I was thrilled with the outfit I chose for the day. The Pistachio Paisley Pants by Hazel were light and comfortable, but kept me warm when it got chilly. Plus, it was super windy on the pier, so these pants were a much better choice than a dress!

PB&J Boutique has a bunch of vibrant, patterned pants that would be perfect for a day at the beach. I chose to pair my pants with a simple crop top and a dainty necklace. Check out these little necklaces by London Manori!

My Quay Sunnies are my favorite accessory at the beach! Be sure to check out PB&J’s awesome  variety of sunnies so that you can find your perfect pair!

If you ever visit Orange County, I highly suggest taking a stroll on Main Street in Huntington Beach for some amazing shopping, views and restaurants!

PB&J Hits The Beach

Santa Cruz California has always been my family’s ultimate vacation destination. The drive is not long and the beaches are so nice. There are many things we do while we are in town, one is always the beach. Out favorite is Manresa State Beach. I sometimes wonder what to wear to the beach when I want to be comfortable and cute. Rompers are great because you can easily fit a swimsuit under it or a sweater if it gets chilly.

Sold out of this darling Blue Life Romper. See more Rompers here

Another spot we love to visit when we’re in Santa Cruz is the beach boardwalk. They have a lot of fun rides and food. My favorite ride is The Giant Dipper and I always enjoy eating cotton candy overlooking the beach. This Rails flannel is perfect for summer because it is light weight and can be worn when the nights get chilly. The bay area can get cold at night and having this light weight long sleeve kept me nice and warm.

If you’re looking for some amazing macaroons and deserts, Kelly’s French Bakery is the place. Kelly’s has an amazing lunch and breakfast menu. This is always on our list to go to when we’re visiting.

Visited Kelly’s French Bakery. Check out all they have to offer here

If you’re ever in the area you’ll have to experience all that Santa Cruz has to offer. The weather is always comfortable and we seem to make the best memories when we vacation here. I hope you’ll get a chance to visit this beautiful place.

Music Artist Spotlight – Oh Wonder

Have you ever found a band that seems as though no one else has heard of them except you? It gives the songs a personal feel and makes them that much more special when you share them with others. Maybe some of you have heard of this week’s artist spotlight, but sharing them with you all is a special moment for me.

The London duo, Oh Wonder, is a group I recently discovered and they’re music is something extremely unique. Their soft sound and indie feel caught my ear a few months back and I’ve been listening to them non stop ever since. Oh Wonder is releasing one song a month for the next year. They’re already eight months into the project with their debut album set to release in September 2015.

Have a listen and let me know what you think!

I hope you enjoyed this week’s spotlight as much as I did. Be sure to keep a look out for their album in September.

Happy Friday!

Saturday Morning Market

If you’re ever looking for something to do on a Saturday in Chico, the local farmer’s market is a must! You can fill your home with all different kinds of fruits, veggies, flowers, spices and other goodies that are made locally in Chico.

And, of course we had to get a sweet lavender and mint tea at our favorite place, the Sweet Cottage. If you don’t get a chance to visit the most adorable cart at the farmer’s market, they also have a little shop in Downtown Chico for you to enjoy their teas and freshly baked pies.

Strolling around the farmers market on a warm day is the perfect way to spend your Saturday morning. I hope you get the chance to visit one of my favorite things to do in Chico!

Air Travel Tips!

My family is spread out all over the country, so I travel quite a few times during the year to visit them. Some are a quick 1 1/2 hour flight away,  while others are a whole 10 hour day of driving, layovers, and plane changes! From carry-on bags to packing, here a few tips to make your next trip more enjoyable 🙂

airplanePhoto of the Turks and Caicos Islands

First, I like to take a big purse as my personal item so that I can stuff all that I need in it. I get super dehydrated on flights so I always pack my empty 32oz water bottle and then fill it at the airport after I get through security. And, try to avoid buying any drinks until you get through security 🙂

This is my must have packing list for flights:

  • snacks (nuts, dried fruit, Kind bars)
  • water bottle
  • ipad loaded with digital books and magazines (get them free from your local library)
  • headphones
  • charging cell for ipad & phone
  • light sweater
  • large scarf (doubles as a blanket on chilly flights)
  • hand cream
  • antibacterial hand wipes (because sometimes that tray table has someone’s snack still on it)
  • notebook/pen
  • lip balm
  • gum/mints

I’m sure you can come up with your essentials, and it’s helpful to make a list when packing. We have some great things here at PB&J Boutique to make your traveling more comfortable! Our Library of Flowers hand lotions smell delicious and are great to travel with. Bonus they are under the 3.4oz limit so you can put them in your carry-on.

Depending on the length of stay, I usually try to pack a carry-on. This saves time on waiting at baggage claim and you know you will always get your luggage. A carry-on plus rolling your clothes can last quite a few days. Which brings me to another tip – try to roll your clothing! Not only does it help with wrinkles but it saves space too! Room for one more pair of shoes! ; ) I always try to plan out my outfits so I am not over packing.

When packing a carry on, you need to be mindful of your liquids. This is a problem for a product junkie like me. Here is where that subscription to Birchbox comes in handy. I have a ton of sample size shampoos, conditioners, bb creams, lotions and perfumes. I like to save up my sample size products for trips and then throw them in that quart sized zip lock baggie. It’s a fun way to discover new products. Stores like Sephora will give you a sample size of anything you might want to try in store. I like to reuse those little cups they use to fill with my eye cream, serum, or foundation. For a 4 day trip, you only need a little bit of product so don’t waste precious space with full size bottles. Remember 3.4oz or less, and 1 quart sized clear bag per person! Sometimes I just can’t fit it all in one so I put the extras in my husband’s quart sized bag. : )

I hope these tips help you on your next trip!

Bon voyage!

Coachella Recap – PB&J Style

As you might’ve seen from our Instagram this past weekend, I made it to Indio, CA for, in my opinion, one of the greatest festivals out there – Coachella Music and Arts Festival. Three sun-filled days of dancing to your favorite musicians and gazing upon the desert hills is quite possibly one of the best feelings in the world.

In a sea of crochet dresses, crops tops and John Lennon-style sunnies, it’s hard to find a unique style that stands apart from the 90,000 festival-goers. My trick this year: mixing the old with new. I chose some of my favorite items from PB&J and paired them with items I’ve had in my closet for years.
Ferris Wheel

Day 1: I paired the Autumn Meadow Dress with a long Free People dress I’ve had since high school. The simple gray chiffon paired with Raga’s bold and boho patterns was a look I loved!

Watching the Alabama Shakes as the sun went down on Friday was something you weekend 2 goers do not want to miss.

If you’re worried about the heat, take a walk over to the Do Lab. This small stage is shaded and there is water sprayed from every direction. Dance while you cool off – there’s nothing better.

Day 2: I decided to wear the Wild and Free Romper with an older pair of Born boots. This outfit was loose fitting, comfortable and an easy transition from the hot sunny day to the colder breeze at night.

Day 3: On the last day, I wanted to keep the outfit simple and play up my accessories. I chose my Levi’s cut-offs, a Knot Sisters tank, Quay sunnies and a Bed Stu leather belt. My favorite part of this outfit was hands down my sunglasses. The exaggerated cat eye and matte finish was were so bold and glam 🙂Knot Sisters tank

Flower Power – Festival Edit

Hi there, Brittany and Laura here! Excited to be taking over PB&J Boutique’s blog for the second time around! With Spring in full bloom and festival season right around the corner we put together two looks that compliment each. While some may be heading to the desert for Coachella, others may opt for cooler weather at Outside Lands in San Francisco. With that said… whether you are seeking hot or cold, festival or simply a fun Spring-time look, both options can be paired back to any wardrobe.

PS – Us PB&J girls love our festivals… you can catch a recap from pervious adventures here and here 🙂

Laura’s floral jogger is sure to add edge to any outfit. Lightweight, you can always peel this layer and tie around your waist without sacrificing the vibe of your look. Henry and Belle has been without a doubt, my all time favorite denim line since PB&J began carrying them a few year back. They feel like a second skin and these cherry ombre skinnys will not disappoint!  We all know Seychelles for their iconic vintage inspired look and what I love about these sandals is how easily they pair back with dresses and skirts.

Brittany’s floral dress is a staple for Spring. It has adjustable straps making an easy fit for all sizes. Understated gold gladiators compliment the dress and add a fun touch to the outfit. The sandals can quickly elevate any Spring or festival look, plus the are super comfortable! For more dress options, look here … there are so many great choices there is even a category for casual dresses, how great is that?! 🙂

A Walk In The Park

The weather here in Chico has been getting so much warmer lately! The summer heat occasionally becomes a little unbearable, but for right now the temperature is just perfect. We thought we would take a little break to go enjoy the beautiful weather by strolling through our local park.

For those of you who don’t know, Bidwell Park is a popular attraction in Chico. As the third largest municipal park in California, Bidwell features many different areas for hiking, swimming and overall recreation.

One of our favorite locations is called One Mile Recreation Area. One Mile has so many activities to make for a great day at the park. Sycamore Pool is a spot in One Mile that has a part of Big Chico Creek contained in with concrete decks, walls and bottom to allow for a unique swimming experience.
