This past Saturday I attended Alpha Phi’s “Red Dress Gala”, an event dedicated to the awareness and support of Women’s Heart Health. Cardiac care is Alpha Phi’s biggest philanthropic focus nationwide and the dedication towards the cause has been an outstanding success. I belong to Alpha Phi’s newest pledge class here at Chico State so this was my first time attending the event and it surely did not disappoint. “Advancing women’s lives through the power of philanthropy” is Alpha Phi’s mission and it was brought to life during this beautiful event.
The night consisted of a silent and live auction, a three-course meal, and education on women’s heart disease. Proceeds and donations from the event were donated to Enloe Hospital in Chico and also to programs and research focused on women’s heart disease. Many of the members were accompanied by their families and loved ones to celebrate the night and learn more about the issue that our sorority cares so much about.
Not only did my sorority sisters and their families come together to support this cause but the entire building was flooding with red dresses, ties, shoes, decorations and much more. It was great attending an event that focuses on an important cause and it did not hurt seeing everyone rocking their fabulous red attire. I left that night feeling blessed to have spent a wonderful evening with my family and to be part of group that devotes itself to such an admirable cause. I look forward to attending the Red Dress Gala for many more years to follow and showing my support by wearing nothing other than a red dress.
